Biodegradable textiles: Haworth and his Scapes line of fabrics
Scapes is a patented fabric that "leaves no trace" and complements textile recycling. This revolutionary technology establishes a new model of bicircular economy for polyester fabric to flow through an end-of-life life cycle.
Contributing to the environment through textiles
Over the next 20 years, global temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 1.5°C of warming. If this is not limited, critical tipping points will be crossed. The consequences that this will generate will affect both our future and the well-being of future generations.
This is why our ally Haworth is committed to environmental sustainability and cares about taking measures and actions to combat climate change. One of the ways the brand is reducing its carbon footprint is by using innovative textiles that are 91% biodegradable and made from 100% post-consumer waste material.
Scapes: sustainable fabrics
Scapes is made with chips made from water bottles and soft drinks that are processed and extruded into thread. Then, a patented biocatalyst is infused into the woven product. The biocatalyst is what makes Scapes materials get their innovative characteristics. When the product is subjected to anaerobic landfill conditions, 91% decomposes into elements found in nature, in approximately 1,278 days. Scapes has been verified by third-party testing under ASTM D5511 standards and has been proven to biodegrade at the same rate as natural wool fabric.
Scapes is a high-performance textile that meets ACT's performance guidelines for heavy-duty upholstery, including abrasion, flammability, color, and physical properties testing. In addition, it has an attractive, luxurious and organic look thanks to its texture and fabric.
Scapes Applications
This fabric can be used in almost any of Haworth's upholstered products, including seats and vertical surfaces. It's an excellent product line that gives us a new way of thinking about textiles in their full life cycle.
Your company can contribute to efforts to combat environmental damage by using and implementing these products in your spaces, ensuring less waste in the future and promoting reuse and recycling for products already discarded. To quote products with Scapes, ¡contact us!
